Summer Devo - Fall Roller Ski - Winter Prep
Program details: SNSC's Prep program is for our youngest athletes and is focused on developing Nordic skills, both Classic and Skate, through fun, games, and racing. SNSC's Prep program includes between roughly 59 sessions (Prep Level 1, summer and winter) and 103 sessions (Prep Level 2: summer, fall and winter). The program meets between 2-4 times per week from early June through March in three distinct periods: Summer Devo (level 1 and 2), Fall Roller Ski, and Winter Prep (level 1 and 2).
Summer Devo (level 1 and 2): Our summer Devo program is for athletes ages 6-13. This program is fun and fitness oriented designed for younger athletes. We will run, roller ski, bike, hike and generally enjoy the summer outdoors. This program focuses on developing fitness in a fun environment. Meets 2-3 times per week plus the Wednesday night race series. Sessions are typically 1.5hrs.
Fall Roller Ski: This 6-week program is perfect for athletes under 14 (non-Comp) who want to continue to develop skills learned over the summer or for those who want to get an early start on winter training. It will meet twice a week and will focus on continuing to develop roller ski skills. Meets twice per week for 1.5hrs per session from the beginning of September - mid October.
Winter Prep Level 1: Prep level 1 is an introductory level team emphasizing fun through skiing, basic skills and team building. Basic introduction to racing including all RMN races, the Snolof, and the Gold Rush. This is designed as a program to teach both classic and skate techniques and is ideal for kids who are new to the sport. Program meets two days per week from mid-November to the end of February (although often we continue practice into March when snow conditions are good).
Winter Prep Level 2: The Prep level 2 team is a step up from our level 1 Prep program and is designed for kids who are interested in further developing their skills, beginning to race, or further developing their race skills. This program focuses on improving technique and developing higher-level skiing. Meets on average 3 days per week. Athletes will have coaching and wax support at all RMN and local races: October 29th through the end of February (although often we continue practice into March when snow conditions are good).
Equipment: Prep athletes need classic and skate skis, boots and poles (we have equipment to borrow if needed). It's great if athletes also have a watch, drinking belt (or other hydration system), and running shoes. Read our equipment guide HERE.
Race Licenses: All Prep athletes will need a USSA license. Details HERE.
Program Fees: Program fees include training plans, coached sessions, race support, pre-race ski waxing, transportation during training sessions, practice wax (and ski maintenance supplies), individual sessions (as needed), etc. As an SNSC member you have access to team pricing on equipment, team logo gear, season passes.
Additional Costs: SNSC athletes are encouraged, but not required to order race uniforms and team logo gear. Uniforms are ordered through Podiumwear and team logo gear is ordered through the club. Athletes must pay race entry fees.
