Summer Devo - Fall Rollerski - Winter Devo
SNSC's Devo program is for athletes generally 11-13 years old. Occasionally athletes in this age range find a better fit in either our Prep programs or in rare cases our Comp program. If you think your athlete belongs in one of our other programs, contact Olof to discuss.
The Devo program is an important building block for Comp as it helps athletes develop their skills, fitness, and overall training load. Many athletes choose to participate in SNSC programs year-round (from June-March). This year SNSC will offer a single registration for athletes who participate in the year-round Devo program (combining Summer Devo Level 2, Fall Rollerski, and Winter Devo).
Program details: SNSC's year round Devo program includes approximately 230 hours of coaching across 127 sessions (average length 1.5 hours) in addition to training plans, pre-race waxing, heart rate data analysis, etc. The program meets between 3-5 times per week from early June through March. Coached sessions include video analysis, individualized technique training, intensity sessions, distance and ultra-distance sessions, strength training, and plyometric training. Athletes utilize running, roller skiing and biking for dry land training.
Summer Devo (level 1 and 2): Our summer Devo program is for athletes ages 6-13. This program is fun and fitness oriented designed for younger athletes. We will run, roller ski, bike, hike and generally enjoy the summer outdoors. This program focuses on developing fitness in a fun environment. Meets 2-3 times per week for 1.5 hours plus Wednesday evening races.
Fall Roller Ski: This 6-week program is perfect for athletes under 14 (non-Comp) who want to continue to develop skills learned over the summer or for those who want to get an early start on winter training. It will meet twice a week and will focus on continuing to develop roller ski skills. Meets twice per week for 1.5 hours.
Winter Devo: Winter Devo begins mid October and runs through the end of February (although often we continue practice into March when snow conditions are good). Meeting roughly 3-4 times per week (depending on week and race schedule). We often begin with dry land training including running and roller skiing until the snow falls.
Equipment: Devo athletes need classic and skate skis, boots and poles along with classic roller skis (ideally -- but we also have roller skis available to rent). Typically you can use the same boots and poles you use in the winter for roller skiing. Athletes also need a watch (with HR monitor preferred), drinking belt (or other hydration system) and running shoes. This is a minimum list of equipment. Read our equipment guide HERE.
Race Licenses: All Devo athletes will need a USSA license. Details HERE.
Program Fees: Program fees include training plans, coached sessions, race support, pre-race ski waxing, transportation, practice wax (and ski maintenance supplies), individual sessions (as needed), etc. As an SNSC member you have access to team pricing on equipment, team logo gear, season passes.
Additional Costs: SNSC athletes are encouraged, but not required to order race uniforms and team logo gear. Uniforms are ordered through Podiumwear and team logo gear is ordered through the club. If athletes want to travel with the team to races there are additional travel and lodging fees.
